1.500.000 £ of scrap. Torn and bended metal is all that is left of the super car. Who is going to build Bluebird lll is still a mystery, but Donald Campbell is already searching for someone to finance the project. Then I will be back, he says.
As the speed reached 480 km/h a strong gust of wind threw the car off its track, it starts to spin and is thrown into the air, it hits the ground several times and finally rolls a couple of hundred meters before it stops. Campbell is scared senseless, but survives. He is taken to hospital with but a few scratches.

The speed record attempt failed, the super car rolled, but the 39 years old driver survived. Malcolm Campbell, the drivers father was killed in a speed record attempt on water. He son later set the record straight.
The wheels on the 1.500.00 £ turbo-jet is more than 150 cm high. The total weight of the car is 3,5 ton and it is 9 meter long.

During this attempt, Donald Campbell will try to reach 640 km/h. The final goal for the Bluebird is 800.
The turbo-jet speeds along the salt flats in Utah. After 20 seconds it has reached 482 km/h.
