The fifties were the cocktails’ second coming. The rich and beautiful invited each other to cocktail parties and fancy and inventive cocktails saw the light of day all over the place. And of course, magazines and weeklies featured articles on the subject as the one in "Damerna Värld" which these recipes are taken from
Alexander
2 cl. Cocoa liqueur 2,5 cl. gin or brandy 2 cl. thick cream Shake well with crushed ice and strain into the glass

Champagne Cocktail
Drop a lump of sugar into the glass. Ad a dash of Angostura. Fill up the glass with chilled champagne. Ad a very thin slice of lemon peel.

Daiquiri
1,25 cl. of lime or lemon juice Half a teaspoon of sugar 4 cl. of rum Shake well with crushed ice and pour into a glass

Dubonnet Cocktail
2,5 cl. gin 3,5 cl. Dubonnet Shake well with crushed ice and strain into a glass. Ad a very thin slice of lemon peel

Frozen Daiquiri
1,25 cl. of lime or lemon juice Half a teaspoon of sugar A dash of Maraschino liqueur 3 cl. of rum Shake well with crushed ice and pour into a glass.Decorate with fresh cherries.

Manhattan
1/3 sweet vermouth 2/3 whiskey a dash of Angostura Stir with crushed ice and strain into a glass. serve with a cherry. To mix a Dry Manhattan use dry vermouth.

Martini
1/3 dry vermouth 2/3 gin. Stir with crushed ice a strain into the glass. Serve with an olive or a lemon peel, or why not be completely American, a peeled pearl onion.

Planters Punch
2,5 cl. lime or lemon juice 1 teaspoon of sugar 4 cl. rum Shake well with crushed ice and strain into a large glass. Decorate with a slice of orange, a slice of lemon, a cherry and some leaves of fresh mint.

Old Fashioned
Place a lump of sugar soaked in Angostura Bitter in the bottom of the glass. Ad a few dashes of soda and stir. Ad an ice cube, a piece of orange. a piece of lemon and a cherry. pour 4 cl. of whiskey over it all.

Tom Collins
Melt 1 teaspoon of sugar in the juice from one lemon. Ad 4 cl. of gin and an ice cube. Fill up the glass with soda and stir.

Sours
3 cl. lemon juice 1 teaspoon of sugar 4 cl. whiskey Shake well with crushed ice and strain into a glass. serve with a slice of orange and a cherry.

Mint Julep
Mix some mint leaves, 1 teaspoon of sugar and a few dashes of soda in a 25 cl. glass. Fill the glass to the top with crushed ice andad 4 cl of whiskey. Put the glass in a tub of ice so that the glass gets frozen on the outside as well. Stir. Decorate with a slice of orange, a slice of lemon, a cherry and a few twigs of fresh mint. Powder the mint twigs with icing sugar so that even they look frozen.
