Formed 1962 in St Albans area by five schoolkids who entered newspaper talent competition in 1964 and were subsequently signed to Decca Records.
First single, She’s Not There, written by Rod Argent, reached British and American charts same year, though group were unable to follow through.
In 1965 cut (I), which was later ‘re-service/re-packaged’ and released as The World Of The Zombies (Decca) in 1970.
Band split in 1967 after cutting (2) – a track from which, Time Of The Season, ironically went on to sell a million, topping American and Japanese charts after Zombies had become defunct.
Argent formed eponymous band Argent and Blundstone entered solo career.
