These are not colour photographs, if you look closely at them you will see that they are black and white photographs repro technically tinted for print.This was a pretty common technique back in the fifties and the results are pretty amazing.
The illustrations are from "Smørbrødboka" and "God Mat" Both published by the Norwegian publishers J. W. Cappelens Forlag in 1955.

Repro colouring was very clever. I notice in one picture some tomatoes clustered around a roast and the reflection of light coming from them made the roundness jump out at you. To colour something yet preserve it’s highlights must have been tricky. They used something like water colours.
