On this part of Retrorambling I’ll post do-it-yourself projects found in magazines and weeklies from back in the good old days when the do-it-yourself movement was still strong and growing. In other words from the thirties, forties and fifties. Maybe even a little from the sixties, even then the do-it-yourself movement had lost most of it’s momentum and people were more interested in sitting all evening ogling the telly than tinkering away the hours down in the hobby room.

Great post(s)!
Glad you like’em 🙂
“… the do-it-yourself movement had lost most of it’s momentum” – Wow, what a revelation. Being a bit of a vintage guy, I never really thought about what you just said until now. You know, you’re right! I’ve been pondering what to do with tools I’ve had as trusty “friends” over the years, plus boxes of parts, bottles of screws and nails, etc. The modern age of technology has been both a blessing and a curse. And to think that I helped it along, spending my entire working career on computer programming and systems architecture… What have I done? !!!
I’ve spent my working hours in front of a PC as a graphic desiger/web designer since 1987 myself, but I come from a long line of cabinet makers and carpenters so my workshop is still in use most week ends 🙂
