Marilyn Stevens has put a new twist to her dancing career by reversing the procedure of booking. Most strippers from south of the border aim for a series of engagements in the United States and very few of the American strippers ever book into Mexican clubs. The main reason for this is that the pay is seldom as much as in this country’s night clubs, but Marilyn has appealed so well to the Mexican patrons that she is now one of the highest paid dancers in Mexico.
Marilyn doesn’t know just what it is in her dances or her personality that has made her so popular in Mexican night clubs, but since appearing there so frequently she has added several Latin dances to her repertoire, such as the Hat Dance, the Tarantella and variations of the Tango and the Aamenco.
Marilyn was born in San Antonio, Texas, but went to school in Vera Cruz, Mexico where her father worked for an American oil company. Later, she went to school in her native city where she prepared to become a secretary.
Marilyn began her dancing career in high school musicals, and then joined a chorus line in! a Las Vegas club. It was there that a Mexican club owner spotted her and offered her. an engagement as a solo stripper and she accepted. That was the beginning of a series of Mexican bookings and Marilyn never did work as a secretary.
This exciting dancer still calls San Antonio home, and she has a home there which her parents occupy. But Marilyn speaks excellent Spanish and feels as much at home in Tampico or Mexico City as she does in Texas. Marilyn spends her vacations – which are few – in the lovely seacoast town of Acapulco.
While in Mexico City, Marilyn appeared on a TV revue and then a panel show and she delighted the fans with her Spanish. When she does come back to the States, Marilyn takes a "busdriver’s holiday", for she makes the rounds of the clubs that feature the twist, and other late dance crazes. Marilyn knows them all, and swings with the best of them. But it isn’t all night life for her when she wants to have fun, for she loves to swim and golf, and also plays tennis well. And when in Acapulco, Marilyn frequently goes deep· sea fishing. Wherever she is, Marilyn Stevens is a gay, happy person.
