As you have seen from the study sheet above a "nisse" is not capable of hiding his feelings. On the other hand he does not have the slightest intention or wish to do so either. If his mad he wants you to see it, if his sad, happy, sorry or pissed, he want you to see that as well.

In this manner they are completely different from us, who tend to hide most of out feelings, some of us are even unable to show them. Even the positive ones. Where a "nisse" is vain, boastful and sly, we humans may be the same but are taught not to show it. It is not considered the done thing.

Not so in the "nisse" world, oh no. If a "nisse" is happy with his clothes and appearance (and most of them are, believe me). Then they show it to the maximum. If he’s happy with something he has made with his hands (and most of them are that, too), he brags about it flashing the product too all and sundry.

Prototype No 2 has come to turns with the fact that No 1 always brags about the fact that he is the oldest of the two. As a result of that he never tells anyone how old he is. But his beard shows that he must be about 150 years younger than No 1. His posture does not vary much from his older companion, but there is slightly more springiness in his steps and his eyes are not so droopy as No 1’s.

By the way you wouldn’t even begin to understand how difficult it was to make these little blighters stand still long enough to make decent drawings of them. And how often they changed position just to spite me.

Prototype No 1 is the oldest of my two small friends. He claims to be 450 years old, but anyone with any knowledge of the "nisse" life and tradition know that they are terrible when it comes to bragging about their age. But his beard is more developed than Prototype No 2’s so he is clearly older. But 450 years, come on.

His clothing which is magnificent (in his own words) can be studied on the sheets under clothing. They are only sketched loosely on this sheet.

As anyone with the slightest knowledge of Norway can see, these guys are pretty traditional in way of clothing. (A closer study of these garments will be presented on other study sheets). As you can see, they are about 35 cm high and rather sturdy build. A "nisse" is always bearded, his beard is among his greatest prides. No "nisse" would be seen with a clean shaven face. Simply not the done thing in their world.

Its obvious to anyone that with a size like this they are hard to catch a glimpse of. In spite of their rather sturdy figures, they are very, very fast and extremely strong. And they have much better eyesight and hearing than us. One might safely say that a "nisse" is not seen if he doesn’t want to be seen.

The fact that made them show them selves to me is that I do my wood work projects out of doors. These little fellows are great craftsmen and make the most amazing objects both in wood, stone and metal. All though I look upon my self as pretty good when it comes to working in wood, they showed little appreciation for my products, claiming they both could have done it both faster and better them self.
