In the US, we have a Public Broadcasting TV show called “The Woodwright’s Shop,” and if you can get a chance to watch some of these shows you might want to do so.
The host, Roy Underhill, uses ONLY human-powered tools, no power tools. (Although sometimes he visits people who use steam or water power). It’s fascinating how he does some of the most intricate work using techniques and tools from, in some cases, hundreds of years ago.
He uses a lathe like the one in your plan.
