Marguerite Diane Webber AKA Marguerite Empey (July 29, 1932—August 19, 2008)was an American model, dancer and actress.

Empey was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Marguerite (née Andrus) and screen writer Arthur Guy Empey.

117056_dw2Under the name Marguerite Empey she was Playboy magazine‘s Playmate of the Month in May 1955 and in February 1956. The photos for her 1956 appearance were taken by soft core porn director Russ Meyer.

Empey took ballet lessons from Russian ballerina Maria Befefi and later worked as a chorus girl at Bimbo’s in San Francisco. In 1955, she married Joe Webber. She later took an interest in nudism, appearing in numerous nudist magazines. The Wonderful Webbers by June Lange, published by Elysium Inc in 1967, documented the Webbers’ nudist life style. Webber posed for many famous photographers such as Peter Gowland, Bunny Yeager and Russ Meyer. She also appeared on the covers for several vinyl record albums including Les Baxter’s Jewels of the Sea, Sea of Dreams by Nelson Riddle, Marty Paich’s Jazz For Relaxation and Chile con Cugie by Xavier Cugat.

117056_dw3Around 1969 to 1980 Empey devoted her full-time career as a bellydance instructor at Everywoman’s Village in Van Nuys, California. She occasionally performed this dance accompanied by her top students and a band playing Middle Eastern music in public places in and around Los Angeles. Empey founded Perfumes of Araby, one of the first American belly dancing companies. Empey’s shows were extremely sensual; they didn’t pander to the audience. Lots of women and children enjoyed the shows. For several years Empey coordinated outdoor performances with up to 40 Middle Eastern dancers.

In the Gay Talese book Thy Neighbor’s Wife, the story tells of a man who carried Diane Webber’s nude picture in his wallet for fifteen years as his masturbatory fantasy.

Empey died on August 19, 2008 in Los Angeles at the age of 76 due to complications following surgery for cancer.

Article from BBC on this day
Brighton will become the first major resort in Britain to officially set aside part of its seafront to nudists.
Following a concerted campaign by local councillor Eileen Jakes, the council tonight agreed to set aside a 200-yard (183m) stretch of the beach solely for nude bathers.

Councillor Jakes, a 47-year-old grandmother and sea-front landlady, believes the beach will increase tourism to the town. In her bid to persuade her fellow-councillors to agree to the scheme she passed round photographs of herself bathing topless in Ibiza.

But there has also been fierce opposition to the proposals by some who believe the scheme will attract “perverts and voyeurs.”

Offensive’
Councillor John Blackman, who has dubbed it a “flagrant exhibition of mammary glands”, said: “We are going too far and people will be offended.

“I personally have got no objection to people showing their breasts and bosoms and general genitalia to one another. Jolly good luck to them but for heaven’s sake they should go somewhere more private.

“What distresses me is that people naively believe what is good for the Continent is good for Britain.”

The 59-strong Tory controlled-council in Brighton was split down the middle, but following a trip to the site by a working party, the proposals were passed.

Situated to the east of Palace Pier between Peter Pan’s playground and the marina, the beach will be opened as an experiment for one year.

The area is screened from the road by shingle and a double row of signs, soon to be erected around the area at a cost of £600, will warn other bathers that they are approaching a nudist area.

The decision to allow a nudist beach in Brighton comes in the wake of a national campaign by the Central Council for British Naturism who had petitioned 140 local councils to allocate sections of their beaches to nudists. So far only seven have agreed to do so.

Brighton’s deputy Mayor Alfred Feld said: “It is a bold move … but we feel we are just moving with the times.

“It is a fairly secluded stretch of beach and I don’t think it will be offensive to anyone.”

The beach is expected to officially open next year.

In Context
The beach officially opened on 1 April 1980.

In 1983 its existence was threatened when the majority Conservative group on Brighton council vowed to close it down saying it was “a disgrace to the town”.

However the nudist beach remains at Brighton to this day and is now recognised as the best known in the country.

There are currently 11 officially designated naturist beaches around the British coastline located at:

Morfa Dyffryn, Gwynedd; Budleigh Salterton, Devon; Studland Bay, Dorset; Eastney, Portsmouth; Brighton, Sussex; Fairlight Cove, Sussex; Leysdown East Beach, Kent; St Osyth, Essex; Corton Beach, Suffolk; Holkham Beach, Norfolk; and Cleat’s Shore, Isle of Arran.

Three hundred thousand men, women, and children, in America alone, are nudists. Followers of the “back-to-Eden” cult report that, during one ten-month period, members increased at the rate of 10,000 a month. Nearly 400 camps, scattered from coast to coast, are being maintained by the faddists for nude sun bathing.
Does nakedness really benefit health? Are the claims of the nudists justified? Can our bodies, if given a chance, inure themselves to cold and inclement weather? Scientists try to find the answer.

Or is it as I suspect just a charade plotted out by the scientists to have their laboratory full of naked people they can ogle as they shuffel around in their white coats tinkering with their equipment and measurements – Ted

As in most of Europe, the nudist movement was quite popular in Sweden during the late forties and the fifties. “Tidløsa” was the leading magazine for the movement in those days. These galleries contain 157 images from “Tidløsa”. Warning: At the danger of stating the obvious, The galleries contain nudity.

0117_nudist_01It is obvious to all that bathing and enjoying the sun in the nude is both indecent and immoral, even so it is good to know that some still do. It gives the rest of us a chance to display our shocks and to feel offended
